4 Ingredients Cookbook (a review)

Some people love to cook, but I’ll be honest… I think it is complicated and stressful!  I’m not the kind of person who can just creatively throw something together for dinner.  Between a full time job, blogging, clipping coupons and shopping, there isn’t a whole lot of time left to spend on cooking!   This is the reason I was so happy for the opportunity to try the “4 Ingredients Cookbook”.  It sounded quick and simple – exactly what my hectic lifestyle needs.  The book lived up to my expectations.

The authors of “4 Ingredients Cookbook”, Kim McCosker and Rachael Bermingham are busy everyday Moms who came up with the 4 ingredients idea together to save time in the kitchen.  They worked during their children’s nap times and early in the mornings researching, developing and testing recipes to put into a cookbook to use between themselves.  The end result was so helpful that they decided to self publish the book in order to share their recipes with others.  Their “4 Ingredients Cookbook” ultimately went on to sell more than 3.5 million copies!

The Kim and Rachael’s mantra is: “Keep it Simple” and they have come up with over 400 quick and easy recipes that can be made with only 4 ingredients!  The recipes are explained in simple, easy to read sentences with basic measurements that help save time by requiring fewer utensils.  There are recipes for all types of meals, including lunch, dinner, appetizers, desserts and it even contains a section designed for children and lunch box meals.

Some of the recipes I tried were: Creamy Meatballs (the secret is the sour cream), Easy Quesadilla (the secret is the taco seasoning) and All American ColeSlaw (hey- I can’t give all the secrets away!). The dishes were not only easy to make, but they tasted great as well.   I’m planning on trying many more recipes from this book!

Kim and Rachael have found some great ways to use common grocery store ingredients to create quick and tasty household meals!  I’d recommend this book to anyone who wants to keep their kitchen time to a minimum while still serving cost effective, home cooked meals to their families.  It would also be a great book for someone who is just learning to cook.

The 4 Ingredients Cookbook is currently being published by Atria Books.  You can purchase it on Amazon for only $12.09 and it is eligible for free Super Saver Shipping.  Be sure and link to their facebook Page as well!
