David Oreck Pure Air Candle Review and Giveaway

We have 2 large dogs and two cats living in this little house of ours and pet odors are always a problem.   I’ve used all sorts of air freshener products to try and control our pet (especially litter box) odors and have found that most of them don’t really last very long.  I’d love to control household odors better and happily accepted the opportunity to try the new David Oreck Pure Air Candle, which claims to actually eliminate rather than mask them.

The Pure Air Website states that their Candles are made with a 100% pure, non-toxic, odor-eating vegetable blend compound that utilize special technology to counteract enzymes contained in bad odors.    Bad odor enzymes are swallowed up and replaced with a pleasant fragrance, leaving the air spelling fresh and clean.  They claim that the candle will work on even the toughest odors, including bathroom, kitchen, pet, tobacco and even mildew odors.  Each 22 ounce candle lasts for 9 months or more under typical use and are guaranteed to work or you will get your money back.

I received two Pure Air Candles – one large and one small to test and review.   The big candle in a very nice jar with a lid.  It would be a very pretty candle if not for the big label on the front with a photo of David Oreck pointing his finger in the air!  I just turned it around so as not to have to look at it.  The smaller candle was cracked during shipping, but we were able to get it out of the glass and put it in a container of our own.  I decided to put the larger candle in the back room near the litter box, since that is the most smelly area of our house.  I put the smaller one in our kitchen.

The first thing I noticed about the candles was that there wasn’t much of a scent to them and it seemed a little odd compared to candles that I’m used to burning.  I burned the large candle first and did start to notice a faint scent after about 30 minutes.  It was an unusual scent that is difficult to describe, but “musky” would be the best I can come up with.  I burned the big candle for about an hour and did in fact notice that the litter box smell was a lot better.  I could still notice it, but it was much better.  The scent of the candle didn’t change much and I suspect that is what it was supposed to do since they say it is supposed to eliminate and not mask odors in the air.

The smaller candle also did a good job at neutralizing the smell of things like onions and garlic.  Again, I do not think it completely eliminated the odors, but it did do a pretty good job at toning them down.  What I liked best about both candles is that the odors seemed much less apparent even after I stopped burning the candle.  I noticed a difference with the litter box odors for the better part of a day, which made me happy.

Overall I would recommend the candles, but they really should take that ugly label off and replace it with something a little more decorative!  I’m especially fond of the fact that they are 100% natural and I’m not masking odors with a bunch of nice smelling chemicals.  I also love the fact that they are made in the a factory in North Carolina.  Even the glass is made in the United States and I like to support products made here wherever possible.

You can order the 22 ounce Candle directly from the Pure Air Website or by calling 1-800-464-1450.  The candle costs $34.95 and right now you can get two 11.6 ounce jars AND a free peppermint candle FREE with every order.
