dENiZEN Jeans Review

Levi Strauss & Company has been a respected American brand since 1853;  they stand behind their clothing, ensuring authenticity in each product.  Now you can enjoy the classic American look of Levis brand jeans with a modern twist.  Their latest line of dENiZEN jeans became available exclusively for sale at Target in July of this year.

According to their website “Denizen means “inhabitant”: belonging to a community of family and friends. Denim is in the name, at the heart of the brand. The dENiZEN™ brand is accessible to all, promising the optimism and confidence that stems from looking and feeling great. dENiZEN™ jeans are the perfect fit for today’s active families, offering the perfect balance of style and value.”

I was a bit hesitant when first given the opportunity to do this review because when it comes to jeans I am pretty picky.  I thought to myself  “what if they fit funny and I have to find something positive about them”.  Well, I’m glad I didn’t listen to myself because the jeans are great!  I’m very happy with the way they look, fit and feel.  The fabric has just enough give to allow for a comfortable fit without looking baggy or feeling too restrictive.  I like the color because they are not too light, but also not super dark (kind of an in between).

As far as the sizing goes I would consider them a pretty true fit.  I typically wear a Junior Size 7.   These jeans do not come in Jr. sizes so I ordered a women’s size 8 (based on their sizing chart) and they fit very nicely.  The waist seemed slightly tight at first, but the fabric stretched quickly to allow for just the right fit.   I got the Midrise Boot Cut and they sit  just slightly below the waist, but not so far that they start sliding down when you bend over (I hate jeans that do that).   One problem I often have with jeans is the length – they are either just a little too short or way too long, but these jeans were very close to the right length.    If I were wearing very flat shoes then I’d still consider them a bit long, but certainly not enough to where I was tripping on them.   I also liked that they were what I consider a true “boot cut” jean.   I don’t like super wide leg jeans,  but I don’t want them too skinny at the bottom either.

Shrinkage was average.   I washed them in cold water and use the low heat setting on the dryer.  I noticed the length shrunk up just a little bit (which I wanted to happen) and the waist still felt about the same as it had when I first tried them on.  There is only one thing I did not care for in these jeans and that was the front pockets.  They were not very deep at all and I like to put things in my pockets, so it was a bit of a drawback, but not enough to keep me from purchasing them.

The Denizen line comes in a variety of styles and washes suitable for the whole family.   In addition to the Midrise that I received, the Women’s Jeans also come in what they call “Totally Shaping” at the waist .  I assume this to mean they fit right at waist level or slightly above.  They are available in long or short length.  You can also get them in a straight leg.  Women’s sizing goes up to size 18.  Men and Children sizes are also available in a variety of sizes in fits ranging from loose to skinny.  Pricing is quite reasonable and ranges from $19.99 to $29.99.  The pair I received retail for $24.99.

Be sure to “like” Denizen on Facebook to be notified of upcoming sales and promotions.

Overall I would say that I am quite happy with the Denizen Jeans and will almost certainly purchase them the next time I’m in the market for a new pair of jeans.  I like the way they look and feel  and you certainly can’t go wrong on the price.

I received a pair of denizen jeans for the purposes of this review. All opinions are my own and you can read my disclosure policy here.
