A couple of weeks ago I was thrilled to receive a very high quality car cover from Empire Covers to review here for all of you. Before I get to the review I want to tell you a little bit about the company in general. Empire makes a lot more than car and truck covers, they make covers for nearly everything – Boats, RVs, Bikes, Scooters, Outdoor Furniture and Equipment… the list is huge. They also carry a large list of accessories like Floor Mats, Seat Covers and items for pet travel. It really is a one stop shop for just about any type of protective covering or lining imaginable. Empire’s prices are very reasonable and they offer a number of promotional discounts as well!
I received the The Titan Quatro 4L SUV Cover for use on my Toyota FJ Cruiser and was a bit nervous about how it would fit given the fact that I have a pretty large roof rack and a spare tire on the back. Fortunately I had nothing to worry about and it fit with room to spare. The cover comes tucked in and attached to a little bag for storage. It is similar to how a sleeping bag is stored and you do have to roll it up pretty tight to get it back in the bag. I still liked it though because at least this way I won’t lose the bag. It also came with a couple of straps and buckles to use during windy conditions.
The cover itself is very well made and not anything like those vinyl things you get at Walmart. It has a full elastic hem for a snug fit and grommets on the underside in case you need to use tie downs. I was very impressed with the quality of the fabric, which is made of 4 thick layers. The 3 outer layers are made of Polypropylene and completely water proof. The inside layer is made of soft Fleece to protect the paint, which I found to be a very nice feature. The whole cover is breathable and allows for evaporation, so there’s no need to worry about mildew or rot. My truck has an antenna on the back and this cover came with very clear instructions on how to accommodate for that. You mark the spot where the antenna goes, cut a hole and apply the heavy duty patches around that area to reinforce it and keep it from unraveling.
Of particular importance for me is the fact that this cover is UV treated to keep the car cooler and the paint from Fading. I have been pretty concerned about how the Toyota will hold up to the sun here in Arizona, especially in the summer when temperatures reach in upwards of 110 degrees. We don’t have a garage and my little white baby has to bake outside all day long! My previous car only lasted 3 years before sun damage set in and the paint started to oxidize off the top and hood. It looked terrible and I do not want the Toyota to suffer the same fate. I am very confident that the Titan SUV Cover will prevent that from happening.
Ok, so how easy was it to put on? Well, it wasn’t too bad, but my Toyota is significantly taller than I am and getting it over the top was a bit difficult, but it had nothing to do with the cover itself. Honestly, if I were putting this on a car or even a small truck then I’d say it was a piece of cake compared to experiences I’ve had with other covers on much smaller vehicles. The cover is clearly marked on the front and back and is heavy enough to drag over the whole vehicle without fighting with it much. I was very pleased with the overall fit, especially towards the bottom. I like how the elastic fits all the way around it and not just around the front and back bumpers like most car covers. It had a snug enough fit that I really didn’t need to worry about the tie downs. So far I have used the Titan Cover in both windy and rainy conditions and it has more than met my expectations. I would highly recommend it.
The Titan Quatro Car Cover comes with a lifetime warranty and is priced at just under $200. Empire offers free Fedex Ground shipping (USA only) on all products over $109.99 ( before tax, shipping, and after discounts are applied). As previously mentioned, they often offer promotional discounts on the covers and other products. The prices seem very reasonable for all of the items I viewed there. I was also impressed with how easy it was to find the correct cover to fit my vehicle. You just select the make and model of your vehicle and they give you all of the available cover options that will fit it. If you are in doubt there is a toll free number to call and have a real person assist you. They guarantee to be able to fit 99% of vehicles and offer a no cost exchange if you get the wrong one. I really don’t think you can go wrong with this company and I’m very glad to have found them. It would be well worth your time to check them out the next time you are in need of any type of protective covering. You can link up with Empire Car Covers on Facebook and Twitter to get friendly information and participate in any upcoming contests and promotions.
