Get Skinny 6-Week Body Challenge Book Review and Giveaway

Scott Schmaltz holds seven certifications in personal training as well as certifications in Holistic Health and Nutrition and has run personal training departments and corporate wellness programs for companies including Gold’s Gym, Snap Fitness, and Health Partners Insurance. He is the author of “Get Skinny! The Six-Week Body Challenge” and a writer for different online health and wellness blogs. He’s also the creator of Custom Workout Videos, which produces and sells online exercise and nutrition videos.

Get Skinny is a no-nonsense book that presents the reader with a series of 6-week fitness and stretching routines combined with complimenting meal plans to provide a complete fitness package.  Scott’s personal training experience comes through in this book with his real world approach to working out.   His methods require the use of only a set of dumbbells, heart rate monitor and a medicine ball – items that do not require a gym membership in order to use.  Simple jogging in place or walking activities can be substituted for cardiovascular equipment.

The fitness routines are broken down into five individual components designed to work together and provide a complete quality of life fitness package:

1.  Cardiorespiratory Fitness (CFR)
2.  Muscular Strength and Endurance
3.  Flexibility
4.  Nutrition and Body Composition
5.  Balance and Proprioception

Scott utilizes his nutritional background by incorporating essential nutritional properties into each of the meal plans.  The meals are simple, satisfying and easy to prepare with a clear breakdown of the nutritional content of each individual ingredient.   My favorite thing about the menu plan is the flexibility.  He provides examples for substituting ingredients and the ability to change the order of the meals as long as certain parameters are met.

The first week begins with a step by step beginner’s course, an explanation of the individual fitness components and a basic nutritional overview.  Each of the next five weeks leads with a real life transformation story to inspire and motivate the reader as well as a series of pre-workout stretches and exercises that builds upon what was previously accomplished.

I appreciate the simple and effective approach to fitness this book provides and was happy to find the meal plans focus on more than just calorie content.  I like that the exercises are simple enough to do at home while still being completely effective.  The step by step instructions and photographs are clear and easy to understand.  The meal plans are basic, but still taste good and his nutritional overview really helps to put the whole fitness routine in appropriate perspective.  The book keeps you motivated because you really start to think about the benefit of each individual move as you apply it and at the same time you also realize how the food you eat assists with that benefit.

Get Skinny will be released at all major book stores on April 1st.  You can get your pre-order in at where it will retail for $11.83.  If you want the book right now then you can download the Kindle Edition for $7.99.  Learn more about Scott Schmaltz and his many other workout products by following him on Facebook, Twitter, You Tube or Linked In.
