I received the increasingly popular Four Cheese Products for this review. They make 4 different varieties of the cheese sauce:
- Yellow Cheddar
- White Cheddar
- Pepper Jack
The sauces are simple and quick to prepare – you just add a quarter cup of milk and stir over low heat. You also have the option of adding a small amount of butter, which I did in all cases These cheese packets can be used in all sorts of creative ways – over pasta, rice, vegetables or even as a seasoning for popcorn. I used the Yellow Cheddar for macaroni and cheese and it was pretty good with a smooth, creamy and mild cheesy flavor. For the white sauce I used rice and didn’t notice much of a difference in the taste, but it was whiter in color and just as creamy as the Yellow. My favorite flavor was the Pepper Jack and I put it over some chicken and broccoli and also made a dip out of it by adding it to sour cream. It was really tasty!
My favorite thing about the cheese sauces is that they are healthy. In addition to being 3rd party tested for gluten free, they are GMO and MSG free, low in cholesterol and provide 7 – 12% DV calcium per serving. Their good on the environment too because Riega Cheddar Cheese Sauce pouches use 17% less material per pouch than other GF Cheese Sauce Mixes.
