Swingline EX10-05 Light-Duty Cross-Cut Shredder Review

Hello everyone.  I have another Shoplet.com product offering to tell you about.  Just a quick overview for those who don’t follow regularly:  Shoplet is a full service office supply company with products for nearly any office supply need.  They even have a new an innovative Green Cart Program to help you find sustainable and recyclable office supplies available on their site (I blogged about that last week).

For this review I received a Swingline EX10-05 Light-Duty Cross-Cut Shredder.  This Swingline Shredder fits into a category known as “cross shredders”, which provide an extra level of security in the way the blades slice the paper (the pieces are thin and cut at a bit of an angle, so they can’t be glued back together and read by the wrong eyes).   This one is designed for personal use and takes up to 10 sheets of paper at a time without jamming.

I’ve used a few paper shredders in my time and have to say that this one does offer some nice features. First, it even has a separate cutter and slot on top to shred credit cards and CDs so you can reduce the wear and tear on the main cutter blades (you can see in the photo where non-paper products were shredded separately).  The main cutter is also durable enough that you don’t have to worry about staples and an occasional paper clip or two.  The window near the bin is helpful in determining how full the bin is getting and with a 5 gallon capacity it holds a fair amount.   The top portion has a handle so it lifts off the bin easily for emptying.

Over-all I would say this is a well made and high quality product.  I found it easy to use and it fit very well under my desk at home.  My favorite feature was the window because the shredder I use now doesn’t have one of those and it often fills to the top without my being aware of it.  I also like that it doesn’t completely jam up when I push stapled documents through it.  My current shredder requires the staple to be removed first.

A document shredder is an important piece of equipment to own given the high incidence of identity theft these days and Shoplet has a wide range of them available on their site.

I received a Swingline Shredder the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received and all options are my own. You can read my Disclosure Statement here.
