Smart Sheep 100% Wool Dryer Balls Review

Smart Sheep Dryer Balls Review

I first read about Wool Dryer Balls a few weeks ago and was intrigued by them.  They are supposed to not only soften your laundry, but also decrease dryer time. I’m not a huge fan of dryer sheets because of the film they leave on the cloths.  Normally I use vinegar in the rinse cycle for softening, but the automatic dispenser of our washer has never worked and I often miss the rinse cycle.   So for this reason I was happy to give Smart Sheep 100% Wool Dryer Balls a review on my blog.

Smart Sheep Dryer Ball Instructions

The Smart Sheep Dryer Balls are made of 100% Wool and come in a pack of six.  They are re-useable and designed to work by bouncing around and increasing air flow around clothing.  This in turn allows for a quicker dry time and fluffier, softer laundry.  So, they not only help the environment by using less energy, but they are better for your health and wallet as well.  They are completely natural and free of chemical dyes and perfumes. There’s no gunky stuff left on your cloths, and no sheet to toss out.  They’re actually made to be used thousands of times, so one package will last you a very, very long time.

So, the big question is do they actually work?  I did about five loads of laundry with these dryer balls today and my answer is yes, they do seem to work pretty well.  I had actually done some reading on these before ever trying them and most people agree that they make your laundry softer.  I read mixed reviews about the decreased drying time, but can say that from my experience so far they DO help the laundry dry faster.

We have a pretty small dryer and the instructions say to use anywhere from three to six balls depending on the size of the load.  I used three balls in all cases. I purposely did not use any vinegar in the rinse cycle or any other type of fabric freshener or softener.  My first load included towels and bathroom rugs, the second load was sheets and the other loads were all general laundry.  One thing I wanted to note was that I tossed a twin sized sheet in with my last load of laundry (hate it when there’s one thing left over).  Normally the cloths would get all tangled in the sheet during dry time, but with the balls this didn’t happen.  Not that I’m advocating bad laundry practice, but thought I’d mention it! Another item worth mentioning is that our microfiber kitchen towels normally come out of the dryer with all sorts of little fuzz balls on them and I found that to be greatly decreased when drying with these balls.  That tells me that the balls probably are indeed helping to lift and move the laundry around a bit more. Static wise I still noticed a little, but it was pretty minimal. My cloths were soft.  I’m not sure they were any softer than my vinegar method, but certainly as soft.

Smart Sheep Dryer Ball after five washes

The above photo should give you an idea of how long they will last.  You can see the five times used ball on the left and a brand new one on the right. The photo doesn’t show it very well, but the used ball is actually a bit fluffed up now and just slightly bigger than the new one.  It also has a small amount of piling on it (from the laundry).  According to Smart Sheep’s instructions this will actually increase the softening of the laundry.  I’m a little unclear on how you will know when it is time to replace them, but they say they will eventually develop pitting – too much pitting and I’d say it is probably time to replace.  Either way, they say the average use time is between three to five years and that is a LOT of laundry!

So all in all I’d give these balls a thumbs up and will continue to use them.  I only noticed two very minor downsides to using these ball: First, the balls have a different kind of smell to them (can’t really describe it as bad, just different), but I didn’t notice any smell at all on any of the laundry. Second, they tend to make a slight thumping noise as they go through the drying cycle.  It isn’t nearly as loud as a tennis ball and there’s no damage what so ever to the dryer (they are too soft for that).  Of course you should probably not use these if you are allergic to wool as well.  Other than that I was impressed and would indeed recommend them to anyone looking for a healthier and more economical solution to dryer sheets.

You can pick up a 6-Pack of Smart Sheep Dryer Balls on Amazon.com for $19.95 and they are eligible for free shipping.   You can also get a 3-pack for $12.95.   At this time they are getting a nearly five-star review rating, so be sure and take a look!

I was provided with six Smart Sheep Dryer Balls for the purpose of this review and no other compensation was received.  All opinions are my own.  You can read my Disclosure Policy here.

The Snug iPad Mini Cover Review

Snug iPad Cases

Christmas is over and I just know there are a whole lot of new iPad, tablet, smart phone and/or e-readers open and out from under the tree by now. I thought this was the perfect time to tell you about some of the products offered at thesnug.com!  The folks at Snug specialize in customized, high quality leather and silicone cases for many portable electronics.  From iPads to Nooks, they have what you need to protect that expensive investment and keep it looking nice at the same time.

Snug Cover for the Samsung

Snug products are designed with the user in mind and come in a wide range of designs (leather, silicone, full or partial coverage) while offering superior protection. The leather cases are “real” leather, not the molded vinyl that many of those “knock-off” versions provide. All cases are cut to a snug fit while still providing easy access to open ports and other access points so no more “sticky” buttons or non-essential open areas.

Most of you know that I cashed in my Swagbucks for the iPad mini recently so I tried out the Snugg iPad mini PU Leather Case Cover and Flip Stand. This case is available in nine different colors and I got the black. I have to tell you that I was very impressed right from the beginning. My iPad mini slid right in with zero struggle and fits perfectly. The lightening port, speakers, camera and power button cut-outs are lined up exactly. They aren’t kidding about the scratch protection because the inside of the cover is super soft and has an almost “sexy” feel to it. It also contains a built in tab near the top that can be used to hold a stylus.

I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant getting the black color as it seemed a little boring, but now am glad I did. The black leather looks real professional with the contrasting white stitching all the way around it. The case is designed with an automatic sleep/wake function and a built in stand.  Both work perfectly and are quite convenient. Weight wise it is just a little heavy, which I chalk up to the better quality (it is fairly thick). The trade-off in weight is well worth the protection it provides while still keeping it portable enough to carry just about anyplace.

In summary I will say that the iPad mini case is nicely crafted, highly functional, professional and stylish. You can’t go wrong with the price either. You can purchase the Snug iPad mini case on Amazon.com for only $29.99 right now and it does qualify for prime and super saver shipping. Snug Cases are an Amazon.com top seller and the iPad mini case rates at 4.75 stars. I’m very happy with mine and will definitely be getting one for my Kindle in the near future!

RevitaShape Skin Toning Cream Review & Giveaway

I have a new skin care product to tell you all about.  RevitaShape from Dermavant labs is an Anti-Cellulite Skin Toning Cream that works to smooth out and firm our skin.   The folks at Dermavant are so sure that you will like this product that they offer a money back guarantee if you don’t notice smoother skin within six weeks.

RevitaShape claims to produce smoother skin in as little as two weeks and minimize the appearance of orange peel textured skin up to six weeks.  The product is formulated to promote firmness and elasticity while slimming and toning those problem areas we all have.  They accomplish this by through a special formulation of dimple-fighting ingredients as follows:

  • Caffeine –  a natural anti-inflammatory agent and can help reduce swelling beneath the skin caused by herniated connective tissue, thus helping to minimize the cause of cottage cheese dimples.
  • Glaucine -An oil derived from the horned poppy flower, glaucine has anti-inflammatory effects similar to caffeine. Glaucine may help decrease water retention in the skin, while helping to improve skin firmness for a more even appearance.
  • Bladderwrack Extract – A marine algae, bladderwrack removes excess fluids that become trapped in the layers of the skin.
  • Centella Asiatica (Gotu Kola) Extract –  diuretic and anti-inflammatory agent, producing effects similar to caffeine when applied to the skin.
  • L-carnitine – An amino acid involved in the metabolism of fat, L-carnitine can help breakdown lipids (or fats) beneath the skin surface, thus helping to minimize the quantity of available subcutaneous fat that may later herniate into the connective tissue.
  • Coenzyme-A – Coenzyme-A is involved in the synthesis and oxidation of fatty acids, and produces similar effects to L-carnitine.
  • Bupleurum Falcatum Extract – One of the most commonly used herbs in Chinese medicine, Bupleurum Falcatum activates lipolysis to break down stored fat. Bupleurum Falcatum also increases Cyclic-AMP, an enzyme involved in the breakdown of fat.
  • Vitamin C – A key antioxidant, Vitamin C improves circulation and aids in collagen synthesis.
  • Retinyl Palmitate – A powerful form of Vitamin A, Retinyl Palmitate helps firm and tighten skin.
  • Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin-E) – Essential for healthy skin, Vitamin E neutralizes free radicals and improves circulation.

That is a pretty impressive set of ingredients and I was anxious to give it a try on my own skin.  The cream comes in a six ounce tube.  The directions say to massage it into clean, dry skin in the morning and evening hours, which I did.   I used it twice daily for about four weeks on my leg and thigh area (the area most affected by cellulite).  So, did it work?  Yes, for the most part it did work, but with a few notations that I’ll talk about next.

I started noticing smoother skin within a few days, but it was not a permanent difference.  I quickly discovered that my skin looked best within the first couple of hours of applying the product.  I suspect it is due to the anti-inflammatory properties of  some of the key ingredients, mainly caffeine.  It is well known that caffeine can boost circulation and help reduce inflammation (try tea bags on puffy eyes), but it is also known that the affects are temporary and I suspect this is exactly what happened in my case.

Now don’t get me wrong.  This IS a good product and they do not claim it to permanently cure cellulite.  It does in fact reduce the appearance of cellulite and smooth the skin just as they claim.  What it does not do is reduce it permanently.  I would suspect that the time limit would be different for everyone depending on the severity of the cellulite and the body’s response level to the anti-inflammatory ingredients.   So would I recommend it?  Yes, over-all I think I would purchase it, especially if I wanted to smooth out my skin for a short term period of time – a special event or vacation.

It is important to note that I am not any type of expert on skin care and  make no health claim to this product.  You can read a lot more about RevitaShape’s claims and ingredients at the RevitaShape Website where it is also available for purchase.

The folks at RevitaShape would like to give a 6 ounce tube of RevitaShape to ONE of my readers as well.  You will have up to five opportunities to win (one required simple entry and up to four bonus entries). This is a Rafflecopter drawing so be sure and click the appropriate button after each entry (so it will count). I’ll draw a winner (via Random.org). The contest will end at 11:59:00 p.m. on August 17th and I’ll draw the winner and email them the next day. The winner will have 48 hours to reply to my email or an alternate winner will be drawn. Wholly Guacamole Cooler Full of Goodies Review & Giveaway

I really enjoy being a member of the Wholly Guacamole Guac Squad and it’s always a pleasure to share their product information with all of you.  Wholly products stand for everything I look for when shipping for food – healthy, tasty, innovative and affordable.  Wholly always has some sort of coupon or other promotion going on at their Website, Facebook and/or Twitter Pages. Another great thing about the folks at Wholly is that they are full of fun and surprises.  You just never know what the next promotion or product offering will bring!

Last week I received a cooler fool of wonderful Wholly goodies in the mail.  It contained their always wonderful Guacamole Products, including the 100 Calorie Pack (my personal favorite), their scrumptious Classic Salsas and surprise… FIVE new specialty flavors!  That’s right,  we now have five new chef inspired salsa creations to choose from:

  • Wholly Salsa® Pineapple dip
  • Wholly Salsa® Red Pepper Mango dip
  • Wholly Salsa® Roasted Tomato dip
  • Wholly Salsa® Avocado Verde dip
  • Wholly Salsa® Guacamole & Spicy Pico dip

Just like with all Wholly Products the salsa is all natural, contains no additives or preservatives, is kosher and is fat and gluten free.  Natural, healthy and delicious – what more could you want?  Wholly Guacamole and Salsa Products are available in nearly all major grocery stores in the USA and Canada.  You can check here to find the store nearest to you.

Don’t let the word “dip” limit you.  You can incorporate Wholly Guacamole and Salsas into a long list of different recipes.  Check out the Recipe Section on their Website for some creative and tasty ideas.  Try it on fish or chicken.  I used the Pineapple Salsa as a pizza topping and it was really good.  Don’t forget that Guacamole is a whole lot better for you than mayo, so try it as a low fat substitute on grilled burgers or even on a hot dog.  The possibilities are endless!  Here’s a photo of the Guacamole Tostadas I made for lunch yesterday – yummy, yummy!

Now for the best part of all… Wholly would like to give ONE of my readers the same cooler full of products that I received. (f you are in Canada then you will receive coupons instead of the cooler).  You will have up to six opportunities to win (one required simple entry and up to five bonus entries).  This is a Rafflecopter drawing so be sure and click the appropriate button after each entry (so it will count).  I’ll draw a winner (via Random.org).  The contest will end at 11:59:00 p.m. on August 10th and I’ll draw the winner and email them the next day.  The winner will have 48 hours to reply to my email or an alternate winner will be drawn.
